I’ve learned that the herbs I need might be growing in my yard, so I have started identifying them and discovering their uses. I enjoy herb craft anyway, so this is a therapeutic, creative activity for me. I dry and douse the wild spearmint in oil for its antispasmodic properties, crush purslane into poultices for my inflamed eyes, and just learned that the oregano that’s gone wild in my yard is known to ease gastrointestinal distress and has anti-inflammatory properties — an unusual combination, since most anti-inflammatories seriously upset my deep, inner workings.
